Top Trends in Planning a Wedding
Trends are always changing, and wedding
trends are no exception. Now that we have kicked off 2017, it’s time to take a look at some of the upcoming trends in weddings for this year:
Color Comeback
In contrast to past trends of neutral and pastel color schemes, colors are set to pop this year. According to Pantone, greenery was named the Color of the Year, in response to the trend of reconnecting with nature.
Metallic Dresses and Breezy Silhouettes
Sparkle is in – in the form of gold, silver, and metallic gowns, which are deemed perfect for a sophisticated evening affair. Breezy silhouettes using fabrics like tulle and organza are popular as well, either for an elegant evening or a second look. Growing in popularity as well are detachable skirts, which allow for two different looks for the price of one.
Portrait Studios and Illustrators
While photo booths with themed or amusing props continue to be popular, a growing trend is the use of a more formal portrait setting, where a “live photographer asks you to vogue for the camera,” as well as illustrators who sketch the event live, which guests can then take home as a keepsake.
Creative Invitations
From calligraphy to mixing patterns, invitations have been taken up a notch from the former simple yet elegant design. Couples want their wedding invitations to stand out, and are implementing more creative ideas to promote their special day.
Gift Lounges
Steadily replacing the traditional wedding favors and take-home gifts is the Gift Lounge, particularly in destination weddings. The contents of the room varies according to the couple’s tastes, including local treats and swag. Some couples use the Gift Lounge as an area to greet arriving guests.
Going Green
Today’s weddings are taking note of environmentally conscious decor. From natural elements to local greenery, such as garlands, couples are taking advantage of the natural local beauty to provide a spectacular backdrop.
Fun Dessert Selections
Meant to complement rather than replace the traditional tiered wedding cake, dessert stations are becoming the preferred alternative to the formal post-dinner dessert. Couples are opting for creative options that allow guests to mingle and sample the various goodies.
Upping the Entertainment
In addition to a band and/or DJ , couples are opting for more “out of the box” entertainment , whether it be jugglers , live acrobatics, or even a choir.
